The spacious, mature garden stretches
the full length of the hotel and contains a
lovely variety of herbaceous shrubs, camelias,
azaleas and other specimen trees including our
well-documented yucca, now supposedly over 90
years old. The beds and lawns are enclosed within
a high sheltering hedge over which the splendid
views unfold across the town and up to Haytor
on the Moor. Pale mauve wisteria clings confidently
to the front of the hotel and jasmines too contribute
their colours and perfume whilst the rich red
of the rose border lends a warmth which reflects
the nature of the hotel itself.
Many guests enjoy sitting out
under the copper beech or on the sunny patio
with their morning coffee or afternoon tea,
simply appreciating the peace and quiet.
We take pride in the diversity
of the garden and, although it is far from green-fingered
perfection, through bursts of animated tending
it provides a tranquil and colourful retreat
in which to enjoy the fresh country air.
